The planet Pluto has been testing the waters of Aquarius this year, bringing a change to how we view our public figures and celebrities.ย
What is Pluto?
Pluto is the planet of transformation, disruption, crisis, power, death, and rebirth. It governs depth, shadow, secrets, and the unknown. Major transits and ingresses with Pluto bring forth the elimination of what we no longer need, what no longer serves us, and what is no longer sustainable or healthy on a personal or collective level.ย
In your birth chart, your natal Pluto and major Pluto transits can help you understand yourself on a deeper level, allowing you to build up your resilience and grow your true personal power. Collectively, Pluto guides us to do the same and to evolve as a society. Major Pluto transits can reveal secrets, corruption, or what is โrottenโ, and allow us to clear them away and build more resilience and strength as a society from those experiences. Pluto most often functions in a reverse process, meaning things can look a lot โworseโ before they get โbetterโ. It brings everything to the surface so it can be cleared away. This can be a rough process, but the results are far healthier, more fruitful, more balanced, and more powerful in the end! The ultimate purpose of Pluto is to empower on the personal and collective levels.
Pluto Enters Aquarius
Pluto has been in the sign of Capricorn since 2008. The last 16 years we have seen a collective reveal of the ways in which our systems, governments, and structures have not been living up to the promised โAmerican Dreamโ or other similar ideals around the world. Capricorn shadows such as patriarchal power, excessive wealth, cutthroat and selfish ambition, obsessions with money and power, and an unhealthy attachment to traditional family and work values have been made more obviously visible and publicly known.
Pluto moving into Aquarius is the natural next step in our collective evolution as we continue to reveal, release, and transmute the shadows of our societies. Pluto first entered Aquarius in March-June of 2023, then again this year from January-September 2024. It will enter Aquarius for good on November 19th, 2024, and stay there until 2043.
Aquarius is the sign of revolution, innovation, technology, and humanitarian causes. It is all about the collective and working for the common good, advocating for the most vulnerable in order to uplift everyone through the process. Aquarius rules radical and progressive ideas and values, freedom from oppression, and collective cooperation.ย
Pluto in Aquarius could bring about political, cultural or ideological revolution. It could bring with it new innovations for solving the worldโs problems, a dismantling of corruption in governments, and a new era of political and cultural leaders.ย
Pluto in Aquarius could also reveal shadows like too much aloofness or emotional detachment in the public and in our leaders, or where we have lost heart and empathy due to the overuse of โrationalโ thought. It could reveal where the pursuit of revolution or anarchy at any cost could be harmful to those most vulnerable, where humanity or morals can be forgotten in the name of science or revolution, and where expectations of other humans could be unrealistic or harmful.
At its core, Pluto in Aquarius is about returning power to the people and encouraging all of us to root into our authentic, creative, human selves.
Why is Pluto in Aquarius associated with Hollywood?
The sign of Aquarius is associated with the trendsetters, role models, and leaders of society โ who we as a society follow, listen to, believe in, learn from, emulate, celebrate, and even worship. This can include celebrities, as well as, political leaders, social leaders, leaders of activist movements, fashion houses, media companies, tech companies, billionaires, influencers etc
With great cultural influence comes a lot of power, and as we know, even if an individual originally set out to serve the collective, it is possible for them to become detached from that mission and more attached to their position of power.
Leo is the sign that rules entertainment and performing. Pluto in Aquarius, the opposite sign of Leo, will be creating tension with Leo areas of life, calling for balance, revealing shadows and redistributing power on a global scale โ that means revolution for global, influential, creative industries such as Hollywood, the music industry, tech, fashion, and more. Inauthenticity, corruption, ulterior motives, a lack of empathy, true selfishness or dangerous detachment will all be brought to the surface and flushed out.
How do we hone in on our individual authenticity and creativity, ensure we are living a life that brings us joy, while also sharing our gifts with the world and using them to work toward the collective wellbeing of humanity?
What are we seeing so far?
We are beginning to see an examination of the morality, authenticity, and true intentions of many of our societal leaders and demand better. Social media has expedited this collective reveal, while at the same time we are still learning more about the effects or dangers that tech, such as social media and uncharted territory like AI, may have on our wellbeing.ย
In the news and through social media many have also been exploring the shadier sides of past favorite celebs, and celebrating the authenticity, morality, wholesomeness, and revolutionary approaches of other celebs.
Some Celebrity Examples
P Diddy
Diddy, a musician and billionaire who launched the careers of dozens of other musicians over the last two or so decades has had a year of reckoning.
Despite being long revered, respected, and admired, his temper, abusive behavior, and illegal actions seem to have been an open secret in Hollywood. This knowledge began to become officially public when the singer Cassie filed a lawsuit against Diddy in November 2023, alleging years of abuse. His homes were raided by federal agents in April of 2024, and now in September of 2024 Diddy has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. Over 100 additional abuse victims may be filing lawsuits in the near future as well.
Many celebrities built a relationship with Diddy in the past in order to benefit from his connections and position of power. There is now a lot of speculation around who else may have known about and/or participated in the illegal and abusive actions of Diddy, what other things some celebrities might have done in order to rise to power and fame, and if any celebrities or public figures will be charged in connection with Diddyโs case.
Blake Lively
Blake Lively has had a rough year in her career. She has been criticized for her alleged lack of tact, awareness, and victim advocacy in the production and interviews around her newest movie, โIt End With Usโ. The press tour around the movie has brought with it criticism around her behavior in current and past interviews, as well as some accusations from past co-stars about alleged rude behavior on past projects. She has even been criticized this year for the launch of her haircare line, Blake Brown, as the launch coincided with her movie promotions, her choice not to include a conditioner in the line, and the publicโs general fatigue with celebrity beauty brands.
For years Blake has been a Hollywood favorite for her iconic acting roles, beautiful looks, immaculate outfits (especially at the Met Gala), and for her endearing and aspirational relationship with her husband Ryan Reynolds. However, fans and the public are beginning to hold her and other celebrities to a higher standard of authenticity, kindness, and self and social awareness. Pluto in Aquarius could certainly continue to dismantle the images of perfection and the pedestals we have placed celebrities on, both humanizing them and holding them to higher moral standards as public figures around what they believe, how they behave, how they treat others (especially those working for them or in less powerful positions), and how they move through the world.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan has been a working artist for the last ten years, but really hit the mainstream in 2023 and 2024 for her incredible vocals, sapphic lyrics, iconic outfits, and embrace of the queer community. She has been very open with her fans through social media and vocal about her exponential rise to fame and the effect it has had on her life and her mental health. Chappell has spoken about how she loves her work, but does not want to participate in the parasocial relationships her fans have with her. She has been vulnerable and authentic in stating her boundaries with fans, advocating for her privacy and personal work-life balance. She has called out โpredatoryโ and โcreepyโ behavior from fans, has insisted fans not call her by her real name, stopped doing meet-and-greets due to fans trauma-dumping on her, and most recently canceled several shows for her mental health. Her authenticity and vulnerability seem to have solidified her fame in many ways, while at the same time she has been clear about maintaining her privacy and prioritizing her wellbeing over the experience of her fans.
As we have seen with Chappell and other celebrities like her, being more authentic, self-aware and socially-aware has not necessarily made being a celebrity any easier. Fans still demand a lot of celebrities, wanting them to be on and available 24/7, wanting them to live up to beauty standards while also breaking them down, wanting them to be real about their mental health but never take a day off, wanting them to say the right things and do the right things with little if no room for error. Pluto in Aquarius may continue to reward authentic, humble public figures with more fame and influence regardless of if they want it or can handle it personally or publicly.
