An Author’s Tell-All
What does it take to turn decades of business experience, spiritual lessons, and cosmic coaching lessons into a fun and digestible, 200+ page Pop-Culture Astrology Book? I sat down with CosmicRx co-founder and first-time author of In The Cosmic Zone, Madi Murphy, to find out just that.
In The Cosmic Zone is a journey through the 12 archetypes of the zodiac, which can be accessed through what Madi has coined as the โTwelve Keys.โ Each chapter includes practical, real-life tools, exercises, personal anecdotes, and client stories that bring these archetypes to life in an easy-to-digest and implement way.
The goal? To help you deepen your connection to every part of yourself and bring it forth into the world.
This article is for you if youโre seeking inspiration and motivation to pursue your creative projects during a time of cultural unraveling and uncertainty. Madiโs journey will give you a jolt and a boostโwhether youโre an aspiring author or just cosmically curious about this Virgo CEOโs authorial debut.

The Spark: Why This Book & Why Now?
Since she was a little girl, Madi says sheโs always wanted to be an author. In our interview, she spoke of her Uncle George encouraging her gift of gab by paying her advances for pages of made-up stories, like the one she wrote when she was nine years old about the evil villain who reincarnated as a dog to learn life lessons and break karmic cycles.ย Original!
โAnd then somewhere along the way, I just lost it,โ Madi said. โI kind of didn’t really trust my voice of being a strong writer anymore.โ
Madi has spoken before about her Chiron and North Node in Gemini in the 12th house, these placements bringing communication struggles to the forefront of her lifeโs work and purpose.ย
โIn 2020, I started really thinking about this different way of using astrology. What if this isn’t just about entertainment or horoscopes or compatibility? What if this is really a revolutionary tool for [self] reclamation? We’re headed into really unknown astrology, and the one thing we can know is ourselves.โย
Rejection is Redirection
Madi shared the story of a literary agent a few years back, approaching her to write a book on shadow work, a topic she has experience with but isnโt as passionate about. As she wrote the book proposal, she described it as โthe epitome of force, not flow.โ
โI wanted it so badly, but your girl was stressed out. I was sweating at 3am trying to get this thing out there. I was writing in this really clinical toneโฆ It felt inauthentic. I knew in that moment that I didnโt want writing a book to feel like that. I wanted this book to flow through me.โ
She put a pause on that original book proposal and saw the rejection of that โfailureโ as a redirection towards something more aligned.
โOne day I was walking around and it was like the book just landed. I had a really great session with a client and I just started thinkingโฆlet me take the stuff that I’ve been saying over and over again, seeing my clients use to really change their lives, and just put it in a book.โ
From there, the flow was unleashed and the idea for In The Cosmic Zone was born.
The Process & Getting Started: From Idea Into Action
โThe secrets of the universe lie in a girlโs Notes app.โย
Madi said she drafted the outline for the book in the Notes app of her iPhone. So relatable, right?
Madi Murphy: Can we talk about a girlโs Notes app, please? Itโs like:ย
– Recipes I want to make
– Reasons Iโm mad at my partner
– A half-written thought about Ryan GoslingAudrey Fritter: Right? Like, โWhat Sabrina Carpenter is here to teach us about girlhood,โ and then โPaper towels, toilet paperโฆโย
When I asked Madi about the process of writing the book and what challenges she faced along the way, she named imposter syndrome as one of the biggest road blocks.
โJust the belief that Iโm allowed to write a book. I don’t have letters after my name. It’s just me, it’s just my lived experience in a book.โย
She said that The First Key of the Cosmic Zone, as inspired by the Aries archetype, is โWhy not me?โ Building the belief that her experience and unique perspective was valuable and needed made it possible for her to start.ย
Madi shared that reaching out to past clients she wanted to feature in the book felt easy, but knowing what personal shares and stories to include felt harder.
โThe Virgo editor in meโฆ it’s just hard to know where to start, where to stop.โ
As she sifted through her own life experiences for stories of how she utilized each astrological archetype, she was motivated to share what helped her leave the comfort zone for The Cosmic Zone.
โI know for me,โ Murphy said, โOther people’s stories have gotten me through those really hard moments. Like, okay, if Audrey did it, so can I.โย
Truth Over Perfection
โI would rather say it imperfectly and it be true, than to worry about saying it โright.โโ
Madi describes her process of writing the book as a collaborative co-creation with her guides, angels, and The Universe. While writing, sheโd sometimes find herself slipping into someone elseโs voice or writing about what she thought she should. To reclaim clarity and her own creative voice, she would take a step back and ask her guides for redirection.ย
She recounted the story of running into an old friend and past client, a Libra sun, at SoHo House in New York. Madi had been struggling at the time to hone in on her focus for the Libra-inspired chapter of the book, when the Universe delivered confirmation and clarity in divine timing:
โShe called out to me like โMadi, Madi! Iโve been meaning to reach out to you!โ This cool, high-powered woman who I had worked with years ago shared that she was now engaged to her dream person, felt happier and more tapped into herself, had healed her relationship with her momโฆ and everything we talked about is what I had just written in the Libra chapter.”
โSo I thought, โOkay, Madi, just follow what you know. Follow what you think is your truth.โ And I kept getting moments like that where the Universe would give me that cosmic chiropractic adjustment and put me back on track, back in alignment. I realized I would rather say it imperfectly and it be true, than to worry about saying it โright.โโ
